This week I am sewing dresses for Abby and Josey I have 4 nearly completed just have to add button holes and buttons.
I am also wanting to sew for a friend, for her wee gal, I have 2 cut out for her. I want to make about three more one for each gal. It is surprizing what one can do with a wee bit of Material.I have some extra peaces of material around that I am making dresses from, left over quilts etc. Did you know that material from Wal Mart is a cheaper grade of material, and may fade and not last as long. If you buy from exquesive markets like high priced quilting stores, thier cottons it will not fade and last longer. So I am running an experiment, making dresses from WalMart stores and from a Quilt store. Did you know that at the material manifacturer the first hundred or so yards are printed out and when the pattern is finaly printing straight. they put it on better graded cottons and that is then sent to higher priced stores, the sample stuff goes to Walmart etc. So the stuff from Walmart may not be printed straight and be on cheaper cotton. Now I do not know about Fabricland it seems to be a bit better then Wal Mart, especially thier cotton material for quilts. That I use for dresses for litle girls, or aprons, adult ladies shirts etc. I do not use the cheaper cottons at Fabric land for quilts as it does not seem like good cotton. I like to use the better cottons for qults so they will last longer. I only found this out this past season, from a lady who worked in the fabric factories.
I have bought cottons from Walmart for quilts and did notice where the material is folded on the roll it is faded. From now on it is the better cottons for me for quilting as you want a quilt to last and not fade through the many washes it will go through. With Childrens clothes it may be ok as they grow out of it so fast. Only problem it can't be recycled to a younger child because of fading etc.
